Engaging with your faith

Christianity - its a big word with a lot of baggage. It creates positive thoughts to many people. To some, it carries negative thoughts, feeling and emotions. Some people think of Christianity as out-dated, irrelevant, or immaterial. Here at Eastgate, we think of Christianity as a world view based on faith in Jesus Christ as the Savior of humanity. Christianity, to us, is not just a religious system. Its not just church attendance or social programs. It is a way of living our lives as part of God's plan for the world. We believe that faith is more than just thinking positive thoughts. It is more than just a hope for a better future. It is more than a belief in God, or belief in Heaven. Faith is a personal decision to accept that God is real and that He is interested in each of us individually. It is a belief that Jesus is the Son of God who came to live as a human being and who ultimately gave up his life to pay the price for our sin so that we might have a better life now and a glorious life in eternity. Faith believes that the Bible is the Word of God. Faith believes that God has a good plan for our lives. Faith believes that we can make a difference in this world as we commit ourselves to God's plan. So faith is engaging with God through prayer and studying the Bible. Faith is engaging with other believers in study, worship, and service. Faith is engaging with other people to work for the improvement of society. It is engaging wrongs to try to make them right. It is engaging with problems to try to find solutions. In all of these things, faith compels us to honor God and to love people.
